BAPTISM

BAPTISM

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments, and the “door” which gives access to the other sacraments. It is the first and chief sacrament of forgiveness of sins because it unites us with Christ, who died for our sins and rose for our justification. Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist constitute the “sacraments of initiation” by which a believer receives the remission of original and personal sin, begins a new life in Christ and the Holy Spirit, and is incorporated into the Church, the Body of Christ. The rite of Baptism consists in immersing the candidate in water, or pouring water on the head, while pronouncing the invocation of the Most Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (CCC 977, 1213 ff.; 1275, 1278).

The Baptism of your child is truly something to celebrate. Baptism preparation sessions are offered on the second Wednesday of every month. These are held from 6 to 8 PM at the parish center. All parents and godparents must attend. Godparents who live out of the area must make arrangements to attend their parish Baptism preparation sessions. The sessions are meant to help parents prepare for and celebrate the Baptism of their child in a joyful and meaningful way, and to help the godparents understand their very important role. Godparents must be confirmed and active participating Catholics in good standing with the church.

Please contact Tammy (541-673-5157) to register for this class and discuss a Baptism date (for infants through age six years). Baptism arrangements must be made one month prior. Baptisms will always be held at St. Joseph’s on the second Saturday of each month at 10AM. If you are expecting a baby, this is the perfect time to take these classes before the little one arrives!

RECONCILIATION

RECONCILIATION

"The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation flows directly from the Paschal Mystery" (Pope Francis). The reconciliation with God effected by this sacrament means that the Sacrament of Penance restores us to God's grace and joins us with him once more in an intimate friendship. To those who receive the Sacrament of Penance with a sincere and contrite heart, God offers peace and serenity of conscience and spiritual consolation. It is a moment of true spiritual resurrection and restoration of the dignity and blessings of the life of the children of God. "Each time we go to confession, God embraces us. God rejoices!" (Pope Francis). Jesus taught: "There is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10.

Reconciliation Times:

  • Saturdays 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM (St. Joseph Church)

  • First Sunday 9:30 AM - 10:00 PM (St. Francis Xavier Church)

HOLY ORDERS

Holy Orders is the Sacrament of Apostolic Ministry by which the mission entrusted by Christ to his Apostles continues to be exercised in the Church through the laying on of hands. This sacrament has three distinct degrees or “orders”: deacon, priest, and bishop. All three confer a permanent, sacramental character (CCC,1536).

If you believe that the Lord may be calling you to this ministry, please contact the Parish Office to arrange a conversation with Father Busse about vocational discernment.
